Hey Folks,

Thursday morning VERY early, I’m grabbing the IMPACT ACTION TEAM, getting on a jet and heading for the CIRCUS BIG TOP to do a presentation in front of 2,000 people at Brendon Burchard’s …

Life’s Golden Ticket Super Seminar - Long Beach, CA - September 26th-28th

One critic said this event was “like Tony Robbins meets Cirque du Soleil” because Brendon Burchard has put together an event that is part motivational seminar, part circus and social theater. This is DEFINITELY different than anything that has ever been done before.

The Impact Action Team has been gearing up ever since the Impact Boot Camp, just to prove the point that one person can really have an impact and make a difference in this noisy world.

Now, we need to produce the NUMBERS

Friday morning we will be announcing a THREE DAY CHALLENGE to the 2,000 people that come to the event and YOU CAN TAKE PART whether you are able to attend or not. The challenge will be announced right in the center ring of this amazing circus tent …

http://learningfolder.net/images/bigtop-inside.jpg

BUT …

WE NEED YOU TO TAKE PART, no matter where in the world you are this weekend as we spread the message to SPEAK UP! SAVE LIVES! and tell people about the amazing G-I-V-E message that the Impact Action Team has created to raise awareness, resources and access to help for people fighting to help prevent teen suicide throughout the world.

I would LOVE to have you join in the adventure with this amazing Impact Action Team to save the lives of countless teens who feel that life is not worth living.

You can do this weekend along with everyone who is live at the event by  …

  • Spreading the G-I-V-E message to people, in person, via a newsletter, teleconference, article, radio or television appearance or speaking opportunity,
  • Giving Dollars to  Jason Foundation or Light for Life to help prevent teen suicide.
  • Connecting an Impact Action Team member to a key-influencer who can help spread the message to G-I-V-E and prevent teen suicide.

JUST BE SURE TO LET ME KNOW THE NUMBERS!

One of the sad facts of life is that we don’t thing that what we do really matters and I want to prove that it does, by creating some pretty amazing NUMBERS.

THREE THINGS THAT WILL PROVE THAT YOU CAN DO AMAZING THINGS - JUST GIVE ME THE NUMBERS!

  1. Can you let me know HOW MANY PEOPLE YOU CAN TOUCH WITH THIS MESSAGE?
  2. Can you let me know HOW MUCH you might be able to GIVE
  3. Can you help us spread the word by putting the team in touch with someone that you think can spread the word to thousands if not millions.

PLEASE FILL OUT THIS SIMPLE FORM RIGHT NOW AND LET US KNOW!

Here are a few facts you might not realize.

  • The third leading cause of death for 15-to-24-year-olds is suicide.
  • Every day, more than 80 Americans commit suicide- and 1500 more attempt it.
  • America lost more teens to suicide last year than the total number of soldiers lost in the Iraq war

But we can help prevent suicide right now by doing a few simple LITTLE things!

  • Greet-say hello, make eye contact, pass a smile on to the people you encounter.
  • Include- Include yourself in the world around you, and invite others to be a part of what you are doing. Reach out, especially if you see someone starting to withdraw.
  • Validate- This can be as simple as a ‘thank you’ or a genuine complement. Let others know you
    appreciate them.
  • Empathize- Be a listening ear. We can’t always relate to the problems or stories of another, but often all you need to do is be fully present as you hear them to truly help the person sharing!

Use this simple acronym to remember what you can do every day to make a difference and perhaps save a life!

And promise today to let someone else know!

http://learningfolder.net/images/ActionTeamWorking.jpg

The Impact Action Team put a lot of work into making this all happen.  Here they are plugging away at the Impact Boot Camp.

This weekend they will be spreading the message to thousands and YOU CAN TO!

Teen suicide is a much bigger problem than you are aware of, I’ll bet.

Why is this?

The media, for one, has a responsibility to keep some of the more frightening and disturbing aspects of suicide very low-key… statistics show that, after a news story about a suicide, the number of suicides goes unnaturally higher for a time.
Same with things like spree killings, or racial attacks…

It seems that by publicizing a deviant or taboo behavior, the media manages to validate the behavior for those who might already be struggling with
the desire to act out.

Result?

Less is made of the shocking truths about teen suicide than perhaps should be. For example:

  • The third leading cause of death for 15-to-24-year-olds is suicide.
  • Every day, more than 80 Americans commit suicide- and 1500 more attempt it.
  • America lost more teens to suicide last year than the total number of soldiers lost in the Iraq war.

Don’t you think this problem might be taking more seriously if more people could be made aware of these facts?
While it is not the intent of the Impact Team to shower the media with these chilling statistics, we do feel it is vital to bring more awareness to this quiet killer.

Some of the obstacles we’re facing as a society in dealing with teen suicide…

“Not MY Child…”

Sometimes as parents we tend to deny with our mind what our heart is telling us. There are obvious indicators in almost all cases of suicide attempts.
(A comprehensive list of warning signs can be found on this website.)

  • It may be that we feel personally responsible for our child’s happiness and well being, and refuse to accept what we see when our teen seems unhappy, maladjusted, or withdrawn.
  • It may be that we don’t connect with our teen at a level that is comfortable for them.
  • It may be that we tried too hard to be the enforcer, or tried too hard to be the friend, and didn’t get the balance right.

Whatever the case- as a parent we have a duty, born of love, to listen and respond to the needs of our children… even when the need is communicated in an unspoken way.

We must be sure to be accepting - of our shortcomings and our childrens’.

The ‘Troubled Teen’ Years

I was there. You were there… Remember that awful confusion as bones stretched, hormones changed, teeth shifted, social pressures grew tenfold while your social skills grew in tiny increments?
Some of the struggles of simply being a teen can mirror the struggles of a teen thinking suicidal thoughts. Feeling left out, not pretty, not good at sports, not smart enough… these are depressing issues for a teenager.

I know I may have said it out loud a couple of times when the world seemed too hard as a teen: “I wish I were dead.” Now, I never had a real suicidal moment in my life- but I felt a lot of despair in my time.

Because these years are already so emotionally volatile, it can be a real challenge to spot these warning signs for what they really are.

We must strive to be aware - of what our children are facing and feeling.

Who To Turn To

Teens themselves have a hard time understanding their feelings, let alone communicating them to someone else! Often coming from an “everybody hates me, nobody gets me, no one understands” place, a teen considering suicide has already more than likely decided there are few, if any, people that are trustworthy enough to reach out to. In many cases, it might be another teen– who may not be equipped to help- who is the potential lifeline for a suicidal teen.

A teen in trouble may want to reach out, but have no real knowledge of where to turn. This is another one of our jobs. To be available and accessible.

The Impact Action team, and the family it is building, hopes to accomplish many things on this journey.

Two of our primary goals are:

  1. A greater awareness of the severity of this silent killer, and
  2. To offer to anyone the following simple plan for proactively and positively creating IMPACT in your daily life, using the GIVE method:
  • Greet-say hello, make eye contact, pass a smile on to the people you encounter.
  • Include- Include yourself in the world around you, and invite others to be a part of what you are doing. Reach out, especially if you see someone starting to withdraw.
  • Validate- This can be as simple as a ‘thank you’ or a genuine complement. Let others know you
    appreciate them.
  • Empathize- Be a listening ear. We can’t always relate to the problems or stories of another, but often all you need to do is be fully present as you hear them to truly help the person sharing!

Honestly, use this simple acronym to remember what you can do every day to make a difference and perhaps save a life!

Each of us needs all of us… and all of us need each of us.

When you grow up with someone, you take them for granted. They are a part of your life, and their part in your life is filled with joys and sorrows as kids tend to go from angelic to mischievous depending on the weather.

My cousin Dany would have been 43 on July 12th.

I spent most of my waking hours with Dany and his older brother Christian exploring, pretending and running from each other. Chris and I used to run away from Dany most of the time, since older kids tend to be cruel to the youngest.

Then we grew up and went our separate ways. I moved from Pennsylvania to Florida, Chris moved to California and Dany moved to Cancun, Mexico. The distance did not help us keep in touch with each other, and I having been a loner most of my life, I was not one for initiating conversations, writing letters, etc.

I did hear more from Chris than I did from Dany, and one day, February 1, 2003, I heard from my parents that Dany had taken his own life after he had discovered that he had cancer of the larynx.

Shock was not the only thing I felt.

Guilt.

I should have been there for him. We all believe that we can make it on our own, and then when someone you know, someone close as a brother, takes their own life, you wonder what effect you could have had.

What impact could I have had?

Beating myself up for the lack of communication, I really sank into a depression. The worst part of the whole situation for me was the fact that I should have maintained contact with Dany.

Why am I dredging up these raw emotions and exposing them for you? Then answer is really only one word:

LISTEN.

Hear what your friends and family are saying. You may have some troubled teens in your family. Teens are at a point in their lives where they feel isolated. They want to feel independent, yet they also feel left out from their friends’ lives because of cruelty (kids are cruel after all - especially groups) or disagreements. The reason for their isolation does not matter nearly as much as the fact that it is eating away at their will to live.

Sometimes (I have had this feeling before in a particularly troubling time of isolation from my family and despair at my circumstances) they feel that their life is not worth living, the pain is too unbearable, and that by taking their own life, they would be getting revenge on the people who make them feel so isolated.

“That’ll show them!”

Listen to them.

Then GIVE!

  • G - Greet and meet: talk to others, smile, say hello, ask them how they are doing…
  • I - Involve yourself: find a cause you can support, volunteer, and pledge resources to
  • V - Validate others: tell others that they matter - especially family members and friends that you tend to see daily but may take for granted, give genuine compliments
  • E - Empathize: be a listening ear, take time to be fully present, don’t try to solve - just acknowledge someone’s feeling or hurt

By following this formula, you are showing teens that you care. Empathy is a catalyst for bonding, and can help you reel in the teen that has started to distance himself or herself from the world around them.

I cannot profess to be an expert, but the people at SpeakUpSaveLives.org like Deremiah Phillips have shown me what taking an extra minute with someone who may just need a smile can do for that person! The goal for our group is to save our teens one at a time. But I have selfishly added my own agenda to this project.

I am doing it because I still miss Dany Savoie!

Have an amazing day!

Hey Folks,

Impact Action Team Member Dr. Natalie Fiset’s article on Teen Suicide shared the Speak Up Save Lives G-I-V-E message and the 15 alarm signs for suicide to over 2.1 MILLION people who read Montreal largest newspaper, the Journal de Montreal, in French.

Suicide is a universal problem and having people like Nathalie spread the word around the globe is vital to the success of our mission to Speak Up and Save Lives.

Dr. Fiset is no stranger to helping other people.  Take a look at her own story and what she is doing in her own mission to help children in Mexico.

Here’s a video that tells you how amazing Dr. Nathlie Fiset is:

Hey Folks,

Thanks to the AMAZING efforts of the Impact Action Team’s Media Team spearheaded by our dynamic, results-oriented Impact Faculty member Sanyika Calloway Boyce I will be spreading the “Speak Up Save Lives” message to over 15 MILLION people LIVE on Comcast CN8 this Wednesday at 730 AM on the “Your Morning” Show .

http://speakupsavelives.org/images/Connie.jpg

I’ll be sharing the Impact Action Team’s message that ANYONE can make a difference and telling people how spreading the message to GIVE can save lives of teenagers at risk of suicide with Emmy Award-winning veteran news anchor Connie Colla and thenews veteran Greg Coy.

http://speakupsavelives.org/images/KenAndSanyika300.jpg

Sanyika is a constant inspiration to our entire team. Here’s an excerpt of a message that she sent out to her team just this morning:

I am so excited for what is to come this week! I have been praying regularly for God to touch, strengthen and bless each of our efforts.

I know how hard we have EACH worked to make and IMPACT in our own families, communities and businesses.

I have also seen first hand the work you’ve done for the advancement of this cause - this amazingly crazy and totally MASSIVE movement.

This calling to “Speak Up. Save Lives” - HUGE isn’t a big enough word to describe it.

I want to take a brief moment and encourage as well as challenge each of us to never see the “mundane activities” that we are required to do as unimportant in relation to others that seem to be more valuable.

I used to falsely believe that “only results matter,” that if there was no tangible evidence of my activities than I had essentially “wasted my time.”

I can assure you this is a very difficult way to run a business and a disappointing way to live  life because what I am sure we have all experienced is the feeling of “coming up short,” even after giving our best effort.

This week (and always) please remember that IMPACT can be created from taking action on the most common task as long as your motives are genuinely rooted in love. Saving lives is an overwhelmingly awesome responsibility and I know we ALL want to see the RESULT of our efforts.

YES… it is my intention to get Ken and Deremiah booked on television this week!

YES…it is your intention to have a producer, reporter or company representative call you back for an interview or approval for some sort of other tangible thing you’d like to do!

SURE… we want to have everyone in the “Twitterverse” sending our message out and talking up #IMPACT

AND….we also want to REMEMBER  the essence of what it is that we have agreed to do.

Our real and only goal should be to touch “THE ONE”

That SINGLE individual who out of the “millions we want to motivate” more than anything needs us to G-I-V-E to out attention no one else but them.

To care about, see value in, and acknowledge them - solely.

So as you go about carrying out all the various activities of your week and putting into motion the plans you have set to make MASSIVE IMPACT.

I pray that you will see the extraordinary in the ordinary and the VALUE ALL of your actions as having merit.

This week, I challenge you to:

G-I-V-E, from your purest intentions
G-I-V-E, with an attitude of gratitude
GIVE, without the expectation of ANYTHING in return

Today, view and carry out each activity you do with an attitude of service and support. This week, recognize that the very act of your “doing” is more than enough.

It would be hard to imagine that anyone could say it better.

Thanks Sanyika for being the outstanding person that you are and for all that you GIVE to MILLIONS of people who touch your life.  The Impact Action Team appreciates your leadership!

You are a blessing to us all!

All the best,

Sep 4

Hey Folks,

Twitter is twitteringFacebook is buzzing, blogs are posting, radio shows are talking, books are being written, crowds are forming.

All the noise is about the amazing impact of the Impact Action Team and faculty at Impact Boot Camp.

You won’t believe what is coming next!

The Sheraton Bucks County was at 100% capacity as the Impact Action Team swarmed into the hotel lobby starting Thursday afternoon.  It’s a good thing that we were planning to meet in the lobby since getting rooms was a bit slow, but the hotel was kind enough to throw us a special reception and we all enjoyed greeting friends and meeting new ones.

The networking continued into the night and then the wee hours of the morning and confusion was rampant!

What the heck was Ken McArthur trying to pull off this time!

Hopefully, something amazing!

Early Friday morning we gathered for the initial session.  The Impact Action Team members were seated across the front of the room with over 100 attendees watching to see what would happen.

Little did they know!

As I started the first session, I knew a little more than the attendees, but clearly this event was designed for participation and creative masterminding and even though I knew that amazing things would happen, I had no idea of the scope that this amazing event would take on — eagerly pushed by our wonderful attendees and Action Team Members.

What kind of project would we work on?

One of the key points that I make in Impact: How to Get Noticed Motivate Millions and Make a Difference in a Noisy World is that ANYONE can make a difference if they apply the principles from this book.

So when I decided to create a case study to prove just that, the options were all over the place!

For weeks, I listened to stories of people who were trying to make a difference in a noisy world.  Our own Impact Action Team members each had a story of people who needed to be helped and lives that needed to change.

Over and over my mind kept coming back to the simple story of Deremiah *CPE as he shared it to me sitting in the car one night at jvAlert Live.

So what’s his story?

Coming out of poverty, moving into middle income America to be jerked back into living below the poverty level is quite painful.

In Deremiah’s case, it was coupled with gang violence, welfare, government cheese and a move to one of the wildest high schools on Chicago’s South Side.

Struggling with depression and crying profusely for weeks on end Deremiah lost hope in everything including his self.

His dreams were destroyed. It seemed he had nothing to live for and with his father now stationed on the other side of the planet and his mother still struggling to maintain her emotional stability Deremiah gave up.

He no longer wanted to live.

And then Deremiah changed.

Deremiah found his faith and his hope for the future was replaced with a bigger mission to help hurting children and Deremiah has been reaching out ever since to at-risk children and making a difference in their lives.

I decided that we would take Deremiah’s project and make it our own.

It’s an amazing project!

Someone attempts suicide every 39 seconds and it effects everyone.  Sitting around our table at lunch ALL of us had been touched and 2 out of four people had someone actually commit suicide in front of them.

It’s a problem that is silent but deadly, so now we have a project … what’s next?

Let’s get some training!

http://theimpactfactor.com/blog/wp-content/KenAndSanyika.jpg

Boy did we get training!

Dr. Ron Capps, the Niche Prof led the charge by teaching us how to use social media sites to build real relationships and visibility.  Frank Sousa talked about the importance of having an impact and the power of video. Sanyika Calloway Boyce showed us how to use the power of getting on TV and radio to enhance our messages and build credibility.

Then the Masterminds Started!

Breaking into mastermind groups, we covered a wide range of topics to see how we could work together to generate …

  • Awareness of the problem of suicide
  • Educational Materials
  • Access to Help and Resources

Each group was assisted by members of our Impact Faculty and Impact Action Team Members as we worked together to make sure that we created a master plan, timeline and great ideas to put into action. Here are some of the areas we covered.

  • Blogs
  • Branding
  • Credibility and Publishing
  • Photography
  • P/R, Radio and Television
  • Research
  • Social Media
  • Speaking
  • Sponsorships
  • Videos

Our master plan involves spreading the word about the fact that ANYONE can make a positive difference, Deremiah *CPE’s unique story and the importance of creating awareness, education and access to help and resources in the area of suicide.

On September 26th, 27th and 28th the Impact Action Team will travel to Brendon Burchard’s Life’s Golden Ticket Super Seminar where we will enlist the aide of over 2,000 people live at the event as well as people and organizations around the world as we get noticed, motivate millions and make a difference in a noisy world.

Throughout the event the attendees and Impact Action Team members were coached by our exciting faculty including, Donna Fox who talked about marketing to women, Warren Whitlock who talked about using books to gain credibility, Mary Mazzullo who taught us how to take impactful photographs, Carrie Wilkerson, the “Barefoot Executive” who taught us about building lists and Felicia Slattery who talked about creating a “Signature Speach.”

Throughout the event, we practiced and planned and the groups were able to come up with amazing resources that will help Deremiah *CPE to create his own book, facilitate radio and television appearances, gather sponsors, leverage existing research and resources, interface with existing organizations and leverage their platforms to amazing reach throughout the world.

http://theimpactfactor.com/blog/wp-content/BrendonImpact.jpg

On Sunday, we were dazzled by an entire morning with the dynamic best-selling author of Life’s Golden Ticket, Brendon Burchard who shared his vision and showed us exactly how to use existing organizations to reach millions with our ideas, products and services.

So what’s next?

Each of our teams has an amazing assignment to create impact over the next month and onward until the end of the year.

Here are just a few ways that you can get involved right now:

Stay tuned for more updates and amazing news!

We have just started this adventure!
